The Ten Commandments Band (XCB) are a group of interdenominational brothers and sisters with one goal and focus-to go out into all the land and preach the GOSPEL to all nations! Since 1993 they have been determined to destroy every voke and remove every burden by the powers invested in them. Jesus is Power! The band was inspired by other gospel bands (Gideon & Joshua Generation). God has gifted The Ten Commandments Band (XCB) to entertain the youth today by combining contemporary gospel, go-go rap, hip-hop, etc. to gain souls for Christ. They have been blessed with a sound that will terrorize the enemy and his host and set every captive free.
In the spring of 1993 Jermaine Pendleton, founder and organizer of The Ten Commandments Gospel Go-Go Band was given a vision from God. In this vision he pictured the lives of many youth throughout the metropolitan area being changed by the sounds of gospel and Go-Go music combined. At that time there were only two other gospel Go-Go bands on the scene (Joshua Generation & Gideon Band). These two bands were an inspiration to Jermaine. Shortly after witnessing their ministries, he knew that he had a lot of work to do to fulfill the vision that God had given him. He also knew that the vision wouldn’t be fulfilled overnight, but would one day manifest under the power of the Holy Spirit.
After much prayer and time with God, Jermaine realized that in order for the vision to go forth in God’s way, he would have to consult the shepherd of his church. This wasn’t an easy task, because at that time the church {Mt. Airy Baptist Church} had an interim pastor. However, Jermaine still presented the vision that GOD had given him.The interim pastor not only approved of the vision, but he also was very supportive of the ministry. He (interim pastor)then met with the church and came to an agreementthat The Ten Commandments Band would become part of the church’s outreach ministry.
After completing those major steps Jermaine began searching for band members as well as staff. By the end of the summer in 1993 everything was in place and the Ten Commandments were ready for ministry. In the fall of 1993 the band had performed for the first time, at the Mt. Airy Baptist Church Annual Community Block Party. As a result of the ministry that God had allowed to take place, five young people accepted Jesus into their lives as Lord & Savior. All Praises Be To God! From that day many doors were opened to the ministry. Some of the programs and events that the band have had the opportunity to minister on includes: churches, block parties, wedding receptions, family reunions, retreats, and the popular community festival which takes place in Southeast Washington, DC known as the Unifest. Ten Commandments Also had the privilege to share the stage with various gospel artist: William Becton, Reston Jackson & Grace, Yolanda Adams, Gideon Band, Gospel Rappers Treasure, Enyaphace, Riff Raff, BB Jay, All of the Gospel Go-Go Bands in the metropolitan area, a couple of Go-Go Bands 911 (currently Familiar Faces) Junkyard Band, Big G of the Backyard Band (Slim Charles from the HBO show “The Wire”) and many, many more ministries. Each time they ministered the spirit of the Lord was present among the young and the old. Unlike all the other Gospel Go-Go bands, The Ten Commandments had a uniquestyle. They transformed the lyrics of secular songs and replaced them with gospel lyrics that uplifted Jesus and edified the Body of Christ. Many of the members did not realize how powerful God had allowed the ministry to become, and in term they lost their focus on the real purpose of this ministry.
The band members began fussing & fighting with one another, allowing the devil to bring division into the group. No longer were they practicing what they preached, but they were living worldly lives. All of a sudden the staff began to fall apart, and many of the band members started straying away from the church, back into the world. As a result, by the summer of 1994, God had shut down the entire ministry. For several years after the shut down, there were no signs of the Ten Commandments Band (XCB). Jermaine felt that he was the reason why the band failed. As leader of the band he felt that he wasn’t living right, so what should he expected from the members. The Lord spoke to him and said “There will be no more XCB until you get yourself right with me”. Jermaine heard the Lord speaking and was obedient.
By 1996 Jermaine had another vision for the Ten Commandments. This time he was inspired by his mentor, the youth minister of Mt. Airy Baptist Church (Rev. Courtney Miller) to minister solo. So, Jermaine began rapping and laying down tracks on his keyboard. Not long after, he was ministering again. Even though he began to minister as a solo artist, he still had in mind the desire to rebuild the band. Shortly after that he found a drummer, and a keyboardist who were interested in ministering to people, and wanted to be a part of the ministry.
From 1996 to 1998, God took his time to work in the reconstructing of the band. By 1999, there were new band members and the band felt like they were ready to minister again, but God didn’t feel the same and what do you know? It flopped again. It wasn’t until the end of 1999 that Jermaine heard the word from the Lord to move forward. After hearing from God he consulted his pastor (Dr. C. Philip Johnson) for his guidance, direction, and prayers.
In April 2000, the band called a meeting to reestablish and organize the group. By May 2000, The Ten Commandments had begun rehearsing again. This time their rehearsals were constructed differently. Before rehearsals the band opens up with prayer, Bible study, testimonies, and open discussions in which they can share with one another things about their relationships with Christ. Some of the devotional periods included Pastor C. Phillip Johnson (pastor of New Prospect Family Praise and Worship Center). Since the reconstruction of the band, God has manifested his presence within the band. He has allowed each member to realize that God has placed them in an end time ministry that is coming up against the devil hard so thatthe lost can come to know and receive Christ, whether young or old. The Ten Commandments continues to present unique sounds of Go-Go, rhythms and beats combined with gospel lyrics. In these last days God is calling his people to, “Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teach them to observe all things whatsoever I have command you and I will be with you till the end of the world”. {Matthew 28:19-20} With this command The Ten Commandments are using their ministry to do just that. Today, we are dealing with a generation who can not understand the traditional hymns or apply them to their present situations, and traditionalism might not capture their attention. So, if they hear something like contemporary gospel, whichis broken downinto today’s language and has catchy tunes & beats that they are accustomed to, then they will be drawn in, and the opportunity for salvation will become real in their lives.
The Ten Commandments Band is now in ministry, wholeheartedly with a purpose, a mission, and a destiny to accomplish all that God has prepared for them to do. So with Jermaine’s vision, guidance from various pastors, and the band members gifts & talents. God has constructed the all new Ten Commandments Gospel Go-Go Band, "A Band That Are Reaching The Lost At Any Cost"!

David K. Hammett, a D.C. native, first received his musical calling at the early age of 5 when he began singing in the Youth Choir of Greater Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. It was here where he discovered his gospel roots and allowed God to manifest Himself through song. David continued to use his God-given gift as he joined the Duke Ellington Boys Choir at the young age of 10 where he sang and received 3 years of specialized vocal training.
After leaving the Duke Ellington Boys Choir, David joined the Washington Performing Arts Society's "Children of The Gospel." After 3 years with society, David decided to focus primarily on his ministry with the Greater Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Youth Choir. After spending much of his early adulthood at GPGBC, David was led to join Union Temple Baptist Church, where he joined the Young Adult choir. This would eventually lead to an invitation from the Union Temple Baptist Church Praise Team. While on the Praise Team, David's worship began to evolve.
He began to not only sing but to invoke pure worship. Through the praise team and increase of worship, doors began to open for David. He began to receive calls and invitations for engagements and was introduced to various local gospel artists.
David is currently a new Solo Artist under N2DEEP Fam. He can also be heard singing background for SolEdler, Tia L. Singleton and Mackenzie Green.
